Consecration of the Family to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary

Most holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary,
united in perfect love,
as you look upon us with mercy and caring,
we consecrate our hearts, our lives, our family to you.
We know the beautiful example of your home in Nazareth
was meant to be a model for each of our families.
We hope to have, with your help,
the unity and strong, enduring love you gave to one another.
May our home be filled with joy.
May sincere affection, patience,
tolerance and mutual respect be freely given to all.
May our prayers be filled with the needs of others, not just our own,
and may we always be close to your sacraments.
Bless those who are present, as well as those who are absent,
both the living and the dead;
may peace be among us
and when we are tested,
grant us the Christian acceptance of God’s will.
Keep our family close to your Hearts;
may your special protection be with us always.
Most Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary,
hear our prayer.

Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima

Queen of the Holy Rosary,
you have deigned to come to Fatima
to reveal to the three shepherd children
the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary.
Inspire my heart with a sincere love of this devotion,
in order that by meditating on the Mysteries
of our Redemption which are recalled in it,
I may be enriched with its fruits
and obtain peace for the world,
the conversion of sinners and of Russia,
and the favour which I ask of you in this Rosary.

(Here mention your request.)

I ask it for the greater glory of God,
for your own honour,
and for the good of souls,
especially for my own.
Amen.

The Most Holy Rosary

Sign of the Cross

In the Name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Opening Prayers

Apostle’s Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell; the third day, He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father Almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

For an increase in the virtues of faith, hope and charity, we pray:

An Act of Faith (optional)

O my God, I firmly believe
that You are one God in three Divine Persons,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
I believe that Your Divine Son became man and died for our sins,
and that He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches,
because You revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

Hail Mary…

An Act of Hope (optional)

O my God, relying on Your infinite goodness and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of Your grace, and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.

Hail Mary…

An Act of Charity (optional)

O my God, I love You above all things,
with my whole heart and soul,
because You are all-good and worthy of all love.
I love my neighbor as myself for the love of You.
I forgive all who have injured me,
and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God,
Have mercy on me, a sinner.

Hail Mary…

Glory Be:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Optionally, include the expansion on the Holy Name of Jesus suggested for that Mystery; i.e., the person praying says “and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus, who (insert expansion). Holy Mary…”. This is based on St. Louis de Montfort's recommended method of praying the Rosary.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be.

Optional Prayers After Each Decade

Prayer of Fatima

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell,
and lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

Prayer for Eternal Rest

In November and Rosaries for the Dead: The ‘Eternal Rest’ prayer is often prayed in place of the Fatima Prayer during the month of November (especially after dusk on All Saints Day and on All Souls Day) and during Rosaries prayed for the dead, such as at Funeral Vigils. Start by dedicating the prayer.

For our departed loved ones (or state a name), especially for the holy souls in Purgatory, we pray:
Eternal rest grant unto him/her (them), O Lord;
and let perpetual light shine upon him/her (them).
May he/she (they) rest in peace.
Amen.

Prayer of the Miraculous Medal:

O Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to you,
and for all who do not have recourse to you,
especially for the enemies of the Holy Church,
and for those recommended to you.
Amen.

The Joyful Mysteries

The First Joyful Mystery – The Annunciation

Lord, through the intercession of Mary,
Your most humble Daughter,
grant me the grace of humility
and complete trust in you.

An angel of the Lord appeared
to [Joseph] in a dream and said,
“Joseph, son of David,
do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife,
for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will bear a son,
and you are to name him Jesus,
for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill
what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
which means, “God is with us.”

The Lord has bared his holy arm
before the eyes of all the nations;
and all the ends of the earth shall see
the salvation of our God.
(Mt 1:20-21-23; Is 52:10)

Our Father…

Hail Mary with expansion on the Holy Name of Jesus (10 times):
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy wombJesus
who humbled himself and became man for our salvation.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be…
O my Jesus…
or: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord…
O Mary, conceived without sin…

The Second Joyful Mystery – The Visitation

Lord, through the intercession of Mary,
Your most joyful Spouse,
grant me the grace of charity toward my neighbor
and gratitude for Your love for the world.

Mary said:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;
behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age
to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones
but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped Israel his servant,
remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”
(Lk 1:46-55)

Our Father…

Hail Mary with expansion on the Holy Name of Jesus (10 times):
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy wombJesus
who sanctifies all things and causes them to rejoice.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be…
O my Jesus…
or: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord…
O Mary, conceived without sin…

The Third Joyful Mystery – The Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Lord, through the intercession of Mary,
Your most blessed Mother,
grant me the grace of detachment from things of this world,
poverty of spirit, and love for the poor.

Wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking,
“Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews?”
And there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising,
until it stopped over the place where the child was.
When they saw that the star had stopped,
they were overwhelmed with joy.
On entering the house,
they saw the child with Mary his mother;
and they knelt down and paid him homage.
Then, opening their treasure chests,
they offered him gifts
of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

For a child has been born for us,
a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
and he is named Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God,
Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
(Mt 2:1*-2a,9*-11; Is 9:6)

Our Father…

Hail Mary with expansion on the Holy Name of Jesus (10 times):
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy wombJesus
born in poverty and born for us.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be…
O my Jesus…
or: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord…
O Mary, conceived without sin…

The Fourth Joyful Mystery – The Presentation in the Temple

Lord, through the intercession of Mary,
Your most immaculate Mother,
grant me the grace of sacrifice,
and purity of mind, body, heart and will.

The Lord called me before I was born,
 while I was in my mother’s womb he named me.
And now the Lord says,
“It is too light a thing
that you should be my servant
 to raise up the tribes of Jacob
 and to restore the survivors of Israel;
I will give you as a light to the nations,
 that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

For God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him
may not perish
but may have eternal life.
Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world
to condemn the world,
but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
(Is 49:1b,5*,6; Jn 3:16-17)

Our Father…

Hail Mary with expansion on the Holy Name of Jesus (10 times):
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy wombJesus
who was dedicated to the will of God.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be…
O my Jesus…
or: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord…
O Mary, conceived without sin…

The Fifth Joyful Mystery – The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

Lord, through the intercession of Mary,
Your most devoted Mother,
grant me the grace of obedience, true wisdom,
and the zeal of finding You in my life.

When his parents saw [Jesus in the temple
after three days] they were astonished;
and his mother said to him,
“Child, why have you treated us like this?
Look, your father and I have been searching for you
in great anxiety.”
He said to them, “Why were you searching for me?
Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
But they did not understand what he said to them.
Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth,
and was obedient to them.
His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in years,
and in divine and human favor.
(Lk 2:48*-52;)

Our Father…

Hail Mary with expansion on the Holy Name of Jesus (10 times):
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy wombJesus
who teaches us the wisdom of the Father.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be…
O my Jesus…
or: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord…
O Mary, conceived without sin…

In Ordinary Time

[From the day after Pentecost (or from Trinity Sunday, if Pentecost is celebrated with octave) to the beginning of Advent:]

Grant, we beseech you, O Lord God,
that we, your servants, may enjoy
perpetual health of mind and body;
and by the glorious intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin,
may be delivered from present sorrow,
and rejoice in eternal happiness.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

In October, the Rosary Month

[The Prayer to St. Joseph is often added as a concluding prayer, especially during the month of October (this was recommended by Pope Leo XIII):]

To you, O Blessed Joseph,
we have recourse in our tribulations,
and while imploring the aid of your most holy Spouse,
we confidently invoke your patronage also.
By that love which united you to the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God,
and by the fatherly affection with which you embraced the Infant Jesus,
we humbly beseech you to regard graciously
the inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased with His Blood
and to help us in our necessities, by your powerful intercession.

Protect, O most provident Guardian of the Holy Family,
the chosen children of Jesus Christ;
ward off from us, O most loving Father,
all taint of error and corruption;
graciously assist us from Heaven, O most powerful protector,
in our struggle with the powers of darkness;
and as you once rescued the Child Jesus
from imminent peril to His life,
so now defend the Holy Church of God
from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity.

Shield each one of us with your unceasing patronage that,
imitating your example and supported by your aid,
we may be enabled to live a good life,
die a holy death,
and secure everlasting happiness in Heaven.
Amen.

During Advent

[From the fourth Sunday before Christmas to Christmas Eve:]

O God, you willed that, at the message of an angel,
your word should take flesh  in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
grant to your suppliant people,
that we, who believe her to be truly the Mother of God,
may be helped by her intercession with you.
Through the same Christ our Lord. .
Amen.

From Christmas to the Purification

[From Christmas to Candlemass (the Feast of the Presentation), that is through February 1:]

O God, by the fruitful virginity of Blessed Mary,
you bestowed upon the human race  the rewards of eternal salvation;
grant, we beg you, that we may feel the power of her intercession,
through whom we have been made worthy  to receive the Author of life,
our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
who lives and reigns with you forever and ever.
Amen.

From Candlemass to the End of the Holy Week

[From Candlemass to Easter (through Holy Week):]

Lord, take away the sins of your people.
may the prayers of Mary the mother of your Son help us,
for alone and unaided
we cannot hope to please you.
fill our hearts with your love,
and as you revealed to us by an angel
the coming of your Son as man,
so lead us through his suffering and death
to the glory of his resurrection,
for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.
AMEN.

During Eastertide

[From Easter day through Pentecost, and throughout the octave of Pentecost if it is celebrated:]

God our Father, you give joy to the world
by the resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through the prayers of his mother, the Virgin Mary,
bring us to the happiness of eternal life.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.
AMEN.
