St. Michael Chaplet

About This Chaplet

Saint Michael, appeared one day to Antonia d'Astonac, and told her that he wished to be honored by nine salutations corresponding to the nine Choirs of Angels, which should consist of one Our Father and three Hail Marys in honor of each of the Angelic Choirs.

Whoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching the Holy Table, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the Choirs. In addition, for the daily recital of these nine salutations, he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life, and after death deliverance from Purgatory for themselves and all their relations.

Novena Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel,
we honor you as a powerful protector of the Church
and guardian of our souls.
Inspire us with your humility,
courage and strength
that we may reject sin
and perfect our love for our Heavenly Father.

In your strength and humility,
slay the evil and pride in our hearts
so that nothing will keep us from God.

St. Michael the Archangel,
you are the prince of angels
but in your humility you recognized that God is God
and you are but His servant.
Unlike satan, you were not overcome with pride
but were steadfast in humility.
Pray that we will have this same humility.

It is in the spirit of that humility
that we ask for your intercession for our petitions…

defend us in battle,
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

Salutation to the Nine Choirs of Angels on the Circlet:

Begin on the first large bead (skip the 4 beads on the stem), say one of the following nine salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels, and one Our Father,. Then on each of the three small beads, say Hail Marys,…

1. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of Seraphim,
   may it please God to make us worthy
   to receive into our hearts
   the fire of his perfect charity.
   Amen.


2. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of Cherubim,
   may God in his good pleasure,
   grant us grace to abandon the ways of sin,
   and follow the path of Christian perfection.
   Amen.


3. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the sacred Choir of Thrones,
   may it please God to infuse into our hearts
   the spirit of true and sincere humility.
   Amen.


4. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of the Dominations,
   may it please God to grant us grace
   to have dominion over our senses,
   and to correct our depraved passions.
   Amen.


5. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of the Powers,
   may God vouchsafe to keep our souls
   from the wiles and temptations of the devil.

6. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the admirable heavenly Choir of the Virtues,
   may it please God to keep us from falling into temptation,
   and may He deliver us from evil.

7. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of Principalities,
   may it please God to fill our souls
   with the spirit of true and sincere obedience.

8.  By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of Archangels,
   may it please God to grant us
   the gift of perseverance in the faith,
   and in all good works,
   that we may be thereby enabled to attain
   the glory of paradise.

9. By the intercession of St. Michael
   and the heavenly Choir of all the Angels,
   may God vouchsafe to grant us
   their guardianship through this mortal life,
   and after death a happy entrance
   into the everlasting glory of heaven.

On the Concluding Beads of the Stem:

On the four beads of the stem (skip the large bead you started with, moving back towards the medal), say one Our Father in honor of each of the leading Angels as follows…

• Dear St. Michael,
  our protector,
  we ask you to come to our aid,
  fight for all our loved ones,
  and protect us from danger.
  At the hour of our death,
  hold prisoner the evil one
  so he may not do battle against us
  and do harm to our souls.
• Dear St. Gabriel,
  messenger of the Good News,
  we ask you to bring us
  a lively faith from God
  filled with hope, charity and love
  for the Living Eucharistic Jesus.
  Hhelp us clearly hear His voice
  and teach us the truth.
  
• Dear St. Raphael,
  the healing angel,
  we ask you to take our need for healing
  and that of everyone we know,
  lift it up to God's throne of grace
  and deliver back to us the gift of recovery.
  Lead us ever on the road
  of virtue and perfection
  and never let us stray.
• Dear Guardian Angels,
  Obtain for us divine inspiration
  and the special grace to be faithful.
  Guide each moment of our earthly life
  and then into heaven
  so we may live forever with the Almighty God.

Anthem to St. Michael:

Saint Michael, glorious prince,
chief and champion of the heavenly Host,
guardian of the souls of the faithful,
conqueror of the rebel angels,
steward of the palace of God
under Jesus Christ, our worthy leader,
endowed with superhuman excellence and virtues:
vouchsafe to free us all from every ill,
who with full confidence have recourse to thee;
and by thine incomparable protection
enable us to make progress every day
in the faithful service of our God.

V. Pray for us, most blessed Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Closing Prayer

Almighty and Eternal God,
who is thine own marvelous goodness and pity
didst, for the common salvation of thy people,
choose the glorious Archangel Michael
to be the prince of the Church:
make us worthy, we pray Thee,
to be delivered by his beneficent protection
from all our enemies,
that, at the hour of our death,
none of them may approach to harm us;
rather do Thou vouchsafe unto us
that by the same Archangel Michael,
we may be introduced into the presence
of thy most high and divine majesty.
