CHAPLET OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

THE CHAPLET OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS consists of 33 small beads (in commemoration of the 33 years that Christ lived on earth), 6 large beads, a medal of the Sacred Heart as centerpiece, and a crucifix. Some chaplets have additional medals for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary linked with the Crucifix.

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit
Amen.

On the Crucifix:

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Heart of Christ, inflame me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Separated from Thee, let me never be.
From the malicious enemy, defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me.
and bid me come unto Thee
That, with Thy saints and angels, I may praise Thee
For all eternity.
Amen.

[Then, briefly touch each of the attached medals, saying…]

Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love.
Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation.

On the beads of the Stem:

On the first large bead:

Our Father…
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I implore that I may love You more and more.

On each of the three small beads:

Hail Mary…
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You!

On the second large bead:

Glory Be…
Sacred Heart of Jesus, be my salvation!

Note: This is also the first of the five large beads referred to for the next set of prayers.

On the beads in the Circlet:

On each of the five large beads before the sets of six small beads:

I love you Lord,
who suffered agony in the Garden of Gethsemane
and who today, in the Blessed Sacrament,
is outraged at the impiety
and ingratitude of Your people.
Give us your Love,
help us to Love you more,
you who alone are holy,
you who alone are Lord,
the Most High, Jesus Christ.

On each of the six small beads in five sets:

Lord, I adore your Sacred Heart,
inflame in our hearts the Divine Love
with which your own is inflamed.

At the end of each set of six small beads:

Lord Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
make our hearts like yours.

On the Sacred Heart centerpiece:

O Lord, you give your Sacred Heart to humanity
in the Mystery of the Altar
for the salvation of our souls,
may your sacrifice not be made in vain.
Hear our prayers,
have mercy on us
and forgive our sins.
We desire to honor you in the Blessed Sacrament,
(glorify you in our thoughts, words and actions,
and thank and praise you always.)
We weep for and detest
the impiety and ingratitude of your people,
call us back to the heart of your Church.
I offer you my heart in reparation for sin.
(Remove from it what is displeasing to you,
dispose it according to your will,
and inspire it with sentiments like yours.)
Draw us near to you, Sacred Heart,
through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
and be our refuge at death,
that we may come to praise for all eternity
the Divine Love with which your Sacred Heart
burns for humanity.
I ask this in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus,
I place my trust in you.

Alternative Closing Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ,
who by an ineffable miracle of love,
hast deigned to give Your Heart to humanity
to serve as their nourishment,
in order thereby to gain their hearts.
Graciously hear our humble prayers,
and pardon us for the sins of which
we confess ourselves guilty before You.
Cast an eye of compassion and mercy
upon those towards whom You condescend
to direct the affections of Your amiable Heart.
And since we desire to honor You
in the adorable Mystery of the Altar
to the utmost of our power
and to render You a most pleasing homage
and for that intention,
weep for and detest from the bottom of our hearts
all the outrages, contempt, mockery,
sacrileges, and other acts of impiety
which ungrateful people in every part of the world
have committed against You,
enkindle therefore in our hearts this divine love
with which Your Own is inflamed,
and inspire us with sentiments like Yours,
in order that we may be able worthily
to praise for all eternity
the love with which this Sacred Heart burns for us.
This is our prayer to You who lives and reigns with the Father,
in unity of the Holy Spirit
forever and ever.
Amen.

On the Medals of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (optional):

Prayer to the Two Hearts of Jesus and Mary

Hail, O most loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
We venerate You.
We love and honor You.
We give and consecrate ourselves to You forever.
Receive us and possess us entirely.
Purify, enlighten and sanctify us
so that we may love You, Jesus, with the heart of Mary,
and love you Mary, with the Heart of Jesus.
O Heart of Jesus living in Mary and by Mary.
O heart of Mary living in Jesus and for Jesus.

O Heart of Jesus, pierced for our sins
and giving us your Mother on Calvary!
O Heart of Mary, pierced by sorrow
and sharing in the sufferings of your divine Son for our redemption!
O sacred union of these Two Hearts!
Praised be the God of Love who united them together!
May He unite our hearts and every heart
so that all hearts may live in unity
in imitation of that sacred unity
which exists in these Two Hearts.

Triumph, O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary!
Reign, O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus!
— in our hearts, in our homes and families,
in Your Church, in the lives of the faithful,
in the hearts of those who as yet do not know you,
and in all nations of the world.
Establish in the hearts of all humanity
the sovereign triumph and reign of your Two Hearts
so that the earth may resound from pole to pole with one cry:
Blessed be forever the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
and the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary!

Obtain for me a greater purity of heart
and a fervent love of the spiritual life.
May all my actions be done for the greater glory of God
in union with the divine heart of Jesus
and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Hear and answer our prayers and intentions
according to your most merciful will….
[mention your petition]
Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised,
glorified, loved and preserved
throughout the world now and forever more…
