Chaplet of the Divine Mercy

[Daily at 3:00 PM]

The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary rosary beads of five decades. At the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Massachusetts the Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer.

Sign of the Cross

In the Name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Divine Mercy Novena

We fly to Your Mercy,
Compassionate God,
Who alone are good.
Although our misery is great
and our offenses are many,
we trust in Your Mercy
because You are the God of Mercy,
and it has never been heard of in all ages,
nor do Heaven or Earth remember,
that a soul trusting in Your Mercy has been disappointed.

We also pray for… [novena intentions for each day]:

1. All humanity, in particular, all sinners.
2. The souls of priests and the religious.
3. The souls of the devout and faithful people.
4. The non-believers and those who do not yet know Jesus.
5. The souls of heretics and schismatics.
6. The “meek and humble” as well as little children.
7. The people who especially glorify Christ's mercy.
8. The souls in Purgatory.
9. Those who are lukewarm and indifferent.

Opening Prayer

You expired, Jesus,
but the source of life gushed forth for souls,
and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.
O Fount of Life,
unfathomable Divine Mercy,
envelop the whole world
and empty Yourself out upon us.

[Say the following three times.]

O Blood and Water,
which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus
as a fountain of Mercy for us,
we trust in You!

Begin with the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary and the Apostle's Creed:

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified;
died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell;
the third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven,
sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,

On the large bead before each decade:

Eternal Father,
we offer you the Body and Blood,
Soul and Divinity,
of Your Dearly Beloved Son,
Our Lord, Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins
and those of the whole world.

Special Intentions During Coronavirus Pandemic (Optional)

You can specify your intentions before each decade, for example, as follows:

• 1st Decade: For those who have contracted the Coronavirus and all its variants,
  we pray for Your healing grace and strength towards a full recovery.


• 2nd Decade: For families who are suffering or grieving during this pandemic,
  we pray for Your divine assistance, fortitude, and consolation.
• 3rd Decade: For healthcare workers and other frontliners, medical researchers, and policy makers,
  we pray for Your wisdom, guidance, and compassion.
• 4th Decade: For all who passed away due, directly or indirectly, to COVID-19,
  we pray for the eternal repose of their souls and admittance into Your glory.
• 5th Decade: For ourselves and those dear to us, as well as people who are vulnerable or at risk,
  we pray for Your special protection of our body, mind, and spirit.

On the ten small beads of each decade:

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Conclude with:

Let Us Pray

Eternal God,
in whom mercy is endless
and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us
and increase Your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments
we might not despair
nor become despondent,
but with great confidence
submit ourselves to Your holy will,
which is Love and Mercy itself.
